I have named this particular body of work Kaleidoscope because of the lively color and symmetric patterns of the paintings. Much like the beloved child’s toy, these almost animated large-scale paintings evoke playfulness, happiness, joy and wonder. Inspired by Mexican floral embroidery patterns and textiles, these paintings are created by loosely blending colorful patterns into each other using holy water sourced from the small chapel where I was baptized in Zacatecas, Mexico. Much of the beauty in these paintings is found in the areas where the separate colors meet, overlap, and blend.
